Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle. He first appeared in publication in 1887. A brilliant British detective, Holmes is best known for his logic reasoning and "science of deduction". Holmes was not very popular at first, but as Doyle continued writing more Holmes novels, he became a big success. Holmes has been shown to be a master of disguise; his many disguises are: a seaman, a groom, a clergyman, an opium addict, a common loafer, an old Italian priest, a bookseller, a plumber, a dying man, an old sporting man and, surprisingly, a woman. His signature attire is a tweed coat and a deerstalker hat. He also commonly smokes a pipe. His most constant companion and chronicler is Doctor Watson.
